Before becoming a member of the Island Council, I was engaged in the community through my work in organizing events, learning about history and heritage as well as helping others to reach their full potential. I also worked as a civil servant where I had the opportunity to inform the community about the work of government and also see the work of government up close. This gave me first hand insight into the work that goes into the development of our island.
As an Island Council Member, I feel a responsibility to advocate for those that are not always able to represent themselves. We have an inherent obligation to support everyone in our community to become strong individuals, this is necessary if we want to grow into a stronger community. This is among the reasons that I continue to push for establishing a living wage, improving our collective health through prevention and sustainable development in the areas of energy and agriculture.
In my role as a Council Member as well as member of the organizations that I work with I have worked to empower others and encourage their growth and development in society. In this way we can stimulate meaningful change on our island. As a passionate supporter in the power of self -leadership, I believe that in public office we have a duty to lead by example. This is the most important thing we can do to influence change. While the words that we speak are important, more important are the actions we take.
