Eviton Heyliger
# 3
Born and raised on the island of Saba known as “The Unspoiled Queen,” Eviton is a son of the soil. Many in the community know Eviton from his days of working as road construction laborer at Public Works Department, as a postal worker, and at Tiny’s Pizza as a delivery operator.
Looking back, as Eviton was approaching his teenage years, his mom decided she wanted him to have an education. This journey began for him on St. Vincent in 1991. The village Eviton stayed at, Sandy Bay, lacked proper electrical lightening in those days, so at night he would use a lantern or candles to study. However, throughout everything Eviton persevered, graduating from North Union Secondary and returning back home to Saba, the land of his birth.
Now, Eviton serves his community as the Technical Director of Own Your Own Home Foundation. He has been with the foundation since 2016, and believes he has found his passion in the building and construction of new homes for local families.
Eviton’s journey into politics started with the WIPM Party in 2007. During that election year, he did not garner much support from voters, but it did not deter him from wanting to make a difference on Saba. Sixteen years later, Eviton still believes in WIPM’s values and continues to want to be a part of the changes.
